Susan (aka Susie) Whitlow
I am running for Lewiston City Council to give the citizens a voice that has been silenced for far too long!
First and foremost, I am not a politician. What I am is a conservative, constitutionalist who strongly supports our 2nd Amendment rights.
This past year has shown many of us how much control the current City Government has over us, which seems to stem from the City Manager position. We have suffered with shutdowns, mask mandates, and even a possibility of “special police” if we, the citizens, did not comply with their orders.
The current City Government is turning Lewiston into a ghost town and pushing their own agenda onto the citizens. This needs to stop! The citizens of Lewiston have a voice and I want to hear them speak up. We need to bring in more businesses and reduce taxes.
Let’s stand together and turn Lewiston into a prospering and peaceful community again.
Taxes and Business
Property taxes are outrageous in Lewiston and need to be lowered. The amount of taxes is determined by the budgets submitted by each department (i.e. Fire Department, Police Department). Budgets shouldn't be a wish list, which most are. The overspending needs to stop.
We need to bring businesses back to Lewiston, and I'm not talking about more banks, convenience stores or fast food restaurants.
Constitutional Rights
I will stand up for your United States Constitutional Rights
I am in favor of making Lewiston a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary
I will oppose any mandates such as masks, vaccines and vaccine passports, and business closures.
Transparency
Open meetings where citizens get answers to their questions
Agendas and policies updated in more concise, understandable verbiage
Public notifications sent out in a timely manner
I have been a resident of Idaho most of my life but have lived in Lewiston for the past 12 years.
I'm a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 5. Both my children moved to Washington State and they are the reason I am getting involved with "politics." I want them to be able to live free with the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and in today's world, it's becoming questionable. So instead of wondering who was going to do something and stand up to for our rights, I realized that I was a somebody and am stepping up.
I have worked my whole life in several different fields; babysitting as a youngster; planting trees for the forest service; peeling yew wood bark; laundry and kitchen work; helping a contractor build trusses; cashiering; driving truck as an owner-operator and in different areas of the accounting field along with other little jobs here and there. You could say that "I am well rounded!"
After all my years working in the accounting field, in 2010, I decided to go back to school and enrolled at LCSC. I graduated in 2014 with a BS in Business Administration with an accounting emphasis and earned Magna Cum Laude honors. Whoever said “you can't teach an old dog new tricks" didn't know what they were talking about. Like my mom used to say, "Can't never tried."
I love the outdoors...fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and yes, even yard work when my body allows it. My favorite thing to do is hop in my vehicle and head to the mountains with the music playing and the city disappearing in the rearview mirror.

Lewiston SMART is a political non-profit group formed by a group of concerned local citizens with the goal of transforming Lewiston’s city government to make it accountable to the people. The members of Lewiston SMART believe that Lewiston’s current "council-manager plan" form of city government is failing to properly serve its citizens. The Lewiston City Manager operates with little accountability to the voters. Lewiston SMART’s Strong Mayor Ballot Initiative will give the voters the opportunity to continue the current dysfunctional “council-manger plan", or change Lewiston’s form of government to an ELECTED “Strong Mayor" who manages the city and is accountable directly to the voters.
We will send you information on the "Strong Mayor" initiative and campaign events as it becomes available.
